Mrs. Lucy B. STRAUGHAN was born on a farm near Parkersburg, IN Nov 12, 1856, the 7th child in a family of 9 children belonging to Mary and Alvin BRIDGES. She attended her neighborhood school then the Waveland Academy and taught school 5 years before her marriage March 6, 1876 to Dr. Kent K. Straughan. They made their home in Parkersburg, Browns Valley and Waveland, spending most of their happily wedded lives in Waveland. In 1926 her beloved companion, Dr. Kent, passed away and she went to Indianapolis to make her home with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar COOK. Three children blessed their union, Dr. Lee Straughan of Crawfordsville; Mary Josephine CHENAULT who died in 1916 and Mrs. Maude Cook. Mrs. Straughan joined the Bpapist Church in Browns Valley, transferring her membership to Waveland where she remained a faithful member until it disbanded. She remained a faithful member until it disbanded. She remained true to the Baptist doctrine. She read her religious book, "The Upper Room," almost every day until her death. Besides the two surviving children, one brother, William Bridges, age 95, of Roachdale, one sister, Eliza WILLIAMS, age 90 of Terre Haute one granddaughter, Kathleen Straughan Patterson of Centralia, Ill several nieces and one nephew also survive. Mrs. Straughan departed this life to be with her Lord and her family and the many friends who have gone before, on March 16, 1941 after a short illness of two days. She will be sadly missed by those who loved her. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. HH Elmore of Crawfordsville at 10:30 Wed. morning at the Machledt Funeral Home with Mrs. Lowell Spencer playing the piano. Burial at Maple Ridge. The pall bearers were: Alonzo Deere; Wilbur Spencer; Sam Grimes; Charley Barr; Robert Fullenwider and Professor Hallett. The flower bearers were: Mesdames Hubert Loudermill; Alonzo Deere; Wilbur Spencer; Olive Lough; Ted Johnson; TS Banta; Charles Barr; Newton Fullenwider; Ray Sharp; CG Hallett.  - typed by kbz
